I'm not sure where my music comes from sometimes and this track very much is of that description. I was simply in my studio working and the name Richard Burton, for whatever reason, just exploded into my brain. I know there are some real Richard Burton's out there. I believe Jane Fonda was married to one, but this isn't a song about any pre-existing man. I will say this. The Richard Burton in this tune doesn't seem like he was a lovely fella'.
I love working on songs like this one. Even as the creator, I don't know the whole story and often I believe, for the sake of creativity, I shouldn't. Being surprised or even confused by what you're writing can be a good thing. I'm still trying to figure out the whole Montague thing.
lyrics
Richard Burton
Gather around
Yeah we haven’t got all night!
Laugh like the whole world is playing
You must laugh if you don’t there’ll be fear
When you’re tasked with the taste of a flavour
You’ve never had before
Dialogue
Why don’t you put a room around it (Ha, ha, ha, ha)
Who went and put a room around me (Ha, ha, ha, ha)
Why don’t you put a room around it (Ha, ha, ha, ha)
Ladies and gentleman
Our performance this evening
Is completely sold out!
Richard never gave to anyone
He was a piece of shit to everyone
I was told to follow Richard Burton
All he did was cause such pain and hurtin’
Tear me apart at least gimme a try
I’ll make it easy for you
Baby I wanna die
Wipe the Pennie Moore off your face
And get in the fucking car Saggy Maggy
Richard please!
It’s like he never needed anyone
But now he needs us more than anyone
It’s like he never needed anyone
I am not afraid of what goes on in the room
I am not afraid, afraid of you
I am not afraid of what goes on in the room
I am not afraid, afraid of you
Alright, listen up
You’re going to do everything I say
Why?
Because I’m Richard fucking Burton that’s why
Richard was a dizzy man when he came into my room
Lost twirling in rude circle so defined
And as a crowd of angry people eating ordinary food
Thought Richie had completely lost his mind
And he had!
You gotta tear him down
Just to build him up to make him stronger
You gotta twist and pull
Just to make him fit the shape you need
You gotta break his mind you gotta take his time
You gotta make em jump and fly tonight
You gotta dig the hole
But Richies gotta plant the seed
When Richard turned around you see
A misstep mistook his place
A palish faded ghost is what he found
And on each side of the Montague
His family’d been erased
A penance for the nothing that was found
A radical vindictive piece of shit style kind of man
Never did do any good for anyone
So Richie lost his family but he’d always had the plan
To blow his fucking head off when it was done and it was
You gotta tear him down just to make him feel like he’s needed
You gotta him every fucking thing for free
You gotta twisted mind all of the time
I’d fake romance to make you mine
That’s all that’s it for Richie and me!
